Is this thing on?

I'm starting a blog... in 2025... maybe??

This might be one of the strangest things I've ever done. It's definitely the most I've ever put myself "out there" online, with the exception of trying to be a Minecraft YouTuber for about 2 weeks when I was in middle school. Surely I'm not the only one? It's hard to put into words exactly why I'm doing this ^[1], but I'll give it a shot.

I've been interested in technology for my entire life, particularly computers. And since I got a 2015 MacBook Pro my senior year of high school, that interest has largely focused on Apple, the computers and software they make, and the community of journalists, podcasters, enthusiasts, and app developers online. I fall into the category of enthusiast, and I want to keep it that way. The purpose of this blog is to write down and share my thoughts/ideas about Apple, the greater technology landscape, or whatever interests me enough to write about.

A couple of months ago, I deleted all social media off my phone except for Mastodon, which I hardly use. It's quite ironic that now is the time I decide to start publicly saying things online, given I never posted on Twitter (now X 🤮), Threads, or BlueSky. However, I don't think it's a coincidence. Since quitting social media, I've found myself dedicating more time to content that I'm actually interested in. The amount I watch YouTube has increased dramatically, consisting almost entirely of channels I've chosen to subscribe to. I get my news from podcasts and via RSS, and I've actually caught up to the most recent episode of ATP 🥳.

Importantly, I'm bored way more often than I was 3 months ago, and it's refreshing. I'm well aware that starting this website might just be a phase of that boredom and could dwindle away in a few weeks or months. But it also might not be. It might be a creative outlet for me to talk about the things I find interesting, and it might allow me to solidify my opinions in a way that I've not experienced before: publicly.
